Hints & Tips

Welcome to the Victory family!

We're here to help you keep your window coverings immaculate and looking as beautiful as the day they were installed. We've put together a few hints and tips to help prolong the life of your window coverings.

General

Cleaning Your Window Coverings:
If you have accidentally marked your blinds try using a white pencil eraser to remove any blemishes. If necessary, use a citrus based or non-ammonia based cleaner diluted with water. Make sure it is tested in an inconspicuous area first to hide any unforeseen effects. For dust we recommend using a static dust glove (e.g. Enjo).

Operating Your Window Coverings:
Try and avoid extending or operating your blinds by pulling at the sides. Always use the Blind’s operating device such as a control chain, cords or pull stick. This will prevent them coming out of alignment and will prolong the life of your blinds.

Child Safety:
Child Safety is at the heart of everyone and no more so than the team at Victory. Make sure all child safety clips are secured to the wall. Check this twice a year when daylight savings changes as a prompt. Never place children's cots or beds near any blind cords or chains.

Give life to your Blinds:
Never leave your blinds permanently up or down as your blinds will retain a memory and become harder to operate if you leave them in the one position too long. Movement gives life and prolongs the life of the blinds in your home.

Outdoor

Outdoor Awning Fabric care and maintenance: (As recommended by Ricky Richards Fabrics)

Keep the fabric clean by hosing regularly to remove dust, bird droppings and other solid particals and atmospheric polutants.

Avoid rolling up wet to prevent distortion, mildew and potential degradation.

Never roll up wet canvas.

Do not apply detergents, cleaning fluids or insecticides. Bleach products should not be used to clean the fabric as bleach will discolour the colour.

Keep petrol, oil, solvents, kerosene, turpentine and other similar fluids away from the fabric

Cleaning: use water by hosing and if necessary use a mild soap  solution in luke warm water and rince thoroughly with clean water. Use a soft spong or soft brush and never scrub with harsh brushes as they can damage the coatings.

Aluminium Hoods, Tropical Louvres & 'Resort' Aluminium Plantation Shutters:
Keep the tracks free of foreign material and clean the surfaces regularly with clean water to help maintain optimum performance.

Awnings:
When your canvas Awning is installed, make sure you fully extend the blind to help it settle. If you keep your awning rolled up for a prolonged amount of time moisture can build up which could cause your awning to shrink in places or become loose. Make sure your awning is moisture free when you retract it. Water from your garden hose combined with an ammonia-free soap can be used to clean your awnings. Don't try and scrub them with brushes or use chemicals to clean them.

Before retracting your awnings during the cold and wet months, lightly hose them down to remove any grime and allow them to dry. Don't forget to tuck the valance or nap into the head box. This is the first part of the awning to deteriorate and will prevent birds from nesting in them.

Roller Shutters:
When cleaning your Roller Shutters, spray your garden hose while your shutters are in an open vented position, making sure you don't spray the water directly into the pelmet box. Use an 'up and down' motion when cleaning and make sure you give your Roller Shutters a good clean every few months.

Indoor

Aluminium Venetian Blinds:
To keep your blinds clean, dust them regularly. If the slats become uneven, raise the blind fully, which will automatically straighten them. The spring release in the fixing brackets releases so you can remove your blinds to make cleaning your windows easier!

Curtains:
Keep your curtains dust-free by vacuuming them with the appropriate attachment so no damage is caused.

Cellular Blinds:
When removing dust use a feather duster or carefully vacuum the blind. To remove dirt or other substances wipe down your cellular blinds with warm, soapy water then use a clean, damp cloth to remove all soap residue.

Plantation Shutters:
Use a soft, damp cloth as well as a mild detergent to clean your Plantation Shutters. If any of the your blades come loose, then just use the tension screw which is located at the side of the shutter panel to re-tighten them.

Patio Pleats:
To remove dust from your Patio Pleats, use either a feather duster or vacuum using a soft brush attachment. To remove dirt, wipe your shade with a cloth and warm, soapy water, then remove any soap residue with a clean, damp sponge.

Roller Blinds:
Any initial creases you find in your blinds will straighten out over time. If you blinds start to fray on the side then cut off the fraying section with sharp scissors and use a touch of hairspray to reseal the edge. Dual Roller blinds can be cleaned by wiping them down with a damp cloth and mild, soapy water.

Roman Blinds:
Clean your Roman Blinds by wiping them with a damp cloth and mild, soapy water. Any initial creases you find in your blinds will straighten out over time. If your blinds start to fray on the side, then cut off the fraying section with sharp scissors and break out your hairspray to reseal the edge.

Sheerview Blinds:
If your stack becomes uneven, raise the blind to the top to realign the blind. If something becomes lodged in the honeycomb formation of the fabric, you can use a hairdryer on the cold setting and place the nozzle where the object is lodged using the air to direct it towards the end of the shading to remove it.

Soho Strandz:
When washing your Curtains make sure you hand wash them in water below 30C° and don't mix them with any other colours.

Timber Venetians:
If your slats become uneven, raise the blinds to the top to straighten them. If your Timber Venetians have been installed in a wet area, then a coat of Danish Oil every 18 months will help to protect them. If your Timber Venetians have been lacquered or painted then cleaning them is as easy as wiping them down with a damp cloth.

Vertical Blinds & Panel Drapes:
The vertical slats should align themselves, however if they are out of alignment just firmly rotate them. To clean your vertical blinds use a damp cloth to clean the slats. To reach the window behind your blinds, disengage the hanger and slide the blinds out to have full access to your window.
